What is Vardavar ?
Vardavar is one of Armenia’s most joyful and unique festivals, where people of all ages drench each other with water in a celebration of life, love, and renewal. Rooted in ancient pagan traditions, it was originally dedicated to Astghik, the goddess of water, beauty, and love. With the spread of Christianity, Vardavar became intertwined with the Feast of the Transfiguration, preserving its vibrant spirit. Whether linked to rose offerings, harvest rituals, or Noah’s flood, Vardavar remains a powerful symbol of Armenia’s rich cultural heritage.

Pegan Era
In the pagan era, the Day of Goddess Astghik (now known as Vardavar) also carried the symbolic meaning of a bridal and groom viewing.
It offered a rare opportunity for young men and women to interact freely and without restraint. Through various games, the young men would demonstrate their skills and abilities. 👩❤️👨

Nowadays
According to the Gospel, Christ ascends Mount Tabor with His disciples to pray. As He speaks, a radiant cloud envelops them, and a voice proclaims: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him." At that moment, Christ is transfigured—His face shines like the sun, and His garments become white as light. 🌞
